| Students were challenged to write their first biography! We read several books about John Chapman, a man who would be come known to generations as Johnny Appleseed. Visit our classroom to see our beautiful apple poems. The biographies will soon be posted below. |
| Each year in honor of Johnny Appleseed's birthday, the Second Grade at LCE pays tribute to an amazing fruit...the apple! The children will visit four classes and participate in different apple related activities. The children, with help from our gracious volunteer parents, will move room room to room for plenty of apple fun. |

| Rachael - Johnny Appleseed John Chapman was born on September 26, 1774 right in the middle of apple season. His mom died of milk sickness and his brother died too. Also his Dad was at war. So his big sister took care of him. The his dad got re-married to Lucy Cooley 3 years after his first wife died. Johnny had ten children follow along. If he wanted to have some peace he would go in the woods. When John left home he traveled west and planted apple trees in Pennsylvania. Then he traveled west to Ohio to plant more apple trees for pioneer families. He was friends with the animals and Indians. Johnny got his nickname for liking apples so much. There are many tales about Johnny. My favorite is that Johnny can speak to animals. He continued to travel and told stories to children. He would do anything for a pie. When he got to Indiana he got sick for the first time and then he died. Baz - Johnny John Chapman was born on September 26, 1774 right in the middle of apple season. His mom and brother because of milk sickness and Johnny was only two and he only had his sister, Elizabeth while his dad was at war. His dad got re-married to this girl named Lucy Cooley. They had ten children. And when it was too noisy in the house Johnny went to the woods for peace and quiet. When Johnny grew up he left home and started on a new adventure. He traveled to Ohio to plant apple trees for pioneed families. Johnny loved animals and he was friends with Indians. He got his nickname by planting apple trees. There were many tall tales of Johnny. My favorite is when Johnny got bit by a snake. Johnny continued west. On the way he told stories. Johnny made it to Indiana and then he died. Jessica - Johnny Appleseed Johnny Chapman was born on September 26, 1774. When he was two his mom and brother died. He was alone with his sister Elizbeth. John's dad was off fighting in the war. Three years later John's dad got re-married to Lucy Cooley. They had ten children together. John went to the woods for peace and quiet. John moved out of his house and he traveled west. Johnny got a nickname. His nickname was Johnny Appleseed. He was called this because he planted seeds everywhere. He got sick in winter. He died on March 10, 1845. Kylan - Johnny Appleseed John Chapman was born on September 26,1774 right in the middle of apple season. His mom died and his brother when he was only two and his dad was off to war. So his big sister took care of him. Three years later his dad got re-married so they had ten more kids in ten years. So his house was really noisy so he went to the woods to have quiet and peace. When Johnny left home he went west and started planting apple trees in Pennsylvania. Then he went west to Ohio and planted more apple trees for the pioneer families. He liked animals and he was friends with the Indians. The pioneers started to call him Johnny Appleseed. My favorite tale about Johnny is about him wreslting a wolf. Johnny continued west and told more stories. He made it to Indiana and died in a snow storm. He died in 1845. When his dad returned, John Chapman's dad got re-married and had 10 children. John was a great story teller. He always traveled west. He walked only on foot. He had a talent for talking to animals. He also slept with a wolf. He could play with bears. He found a lost horse. He also lived to a ripe age. Johnny died in Indiana on March 10, 1845. Gabby - Johnny Appleseed John Chapman was born on September 26, 1774 right in the middle ofapple season. When John was two years old his mother died from milk poisoning and his brother died too. His father was off at war so he was left all alone with his six year old sister Elizabeth. Three years later his dad got remarried to Lucy Cooely and John got ten more brothers and sisters. But when Johnny wanted some peace and quiet he went to the woods. When John grew up he left home and started a new life out in the wilderness and started planting apple seeds in Pennsylvania. Then he walked all the way to Ohio to plant trees for pioneer families. John was friends with the animals and the Indians. Johnny loved apples so much they gave him a nick name Johnny Appleseed. There are many tall tales about Johnny Appleseed but my favorite is when he lived with the bear family. John kept traveling west and ended up in Indiana. Ten years later they had ten children. It was so loud Johnny went to the woods for peace and quiet. And one day Johnny left home. And when Johnny left home he started walking west. He planted apple trees in Pennsylvania. Then he traveled to Ohio to plant some apple trees for pioneer families. Johny loved animals, and he was friends with Indians. And later on he got a nick name which was Johnny Appleseed. There were many tall tales about Johnny and my favorite was that he had been bitten by a snake and it didn't even poke through his skin. He continued west and he was so brave. And while he was heading west people were telling stories about him. So Johnny finally made it to Indiana and when he was in Indiana he died and went to Heaven.
